I am writing in response to Mary Jane Lane (Letters, the Times, Friday, Nov. 15.)
I, too, think the Affordable Care Act is a “noble idea!” However, I believe that we should be very thankful for the restraint shown by our veterans for being shut out of their monument, paid for with their money; locked out of an open air space, in an act of spite, of our president, who used taxpayer money and federal employees to barricade and lock that memorial, during a shutdown.
As time marches forward, we the people are learning more and more facts, coming from the White House administration as to its complicity in allowing our president to stand before the public and blatantly mislead “we the people” with his “like it-keep it” statement that was known to be false.
In my view, that was a deliberate pitch to sell the ACA to those whose insurance was being canceled, forcing we the people to go to a web site that still isn’t working.
Fortunately, my policy is still in force; perhaps it will be canceled and I’ll need the ACA. But instead of an unworking site, why not take that $600 million and cut every American citizen a check and allow each to pay for their own health care?
Oh, well, what do I know? But I do know that the president took full responsibility for not keeping his word.

I learned at an early age, that a man is only as good as his word; if his word is no good, then what good is the man that used it? How does one believe such a man?
